Ikhwezi Community Centre (Ikhwezi means ‘morning star’ in Xhosa), is a Non Governmental Organisation and is situated in the picturesque town of Paarl which forms part of the greater Drakenstein Municipality. Paarl lies about 60 km north of the city of Cape Town in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. It is registered as a Section 21 company with registration number T921/90. Our primary aims are to assist in the following areas of community upliftment and support.
- Socio-economic upliftment
- Empowerment facilitation
- Life skills training
- HIV / Aids support
- Job creation
The main thrust of the organisation is to act as a catalyst in the empowerment of people especially disadvantaged women, children and youth in order to make them self-sufficient. This is done by presenting and conducting relevant training programmes that will eventually bring about a paradigm shift in the individual. We concentrate on their own abilities and inherent skills, building and honing them so that they can utilize these skills to provide for themselves and become self-sufficient. As Ikhwezi is community based, it is also community driven and it seeks to engage itself in the development and upliftment of its constituents.
